Club Championships 2008
Our annual Club Championships were held at the beginning of September and as usual, the event was well supported and highly enjoyed by club members.
In the Men's Singles, Alan Ross retained his title with a 6-1 6-2 victory over Graeme Cowie. He was also victorious in the Men's Doubles along with partner Brian Noble, recording a 6-3 6-4 win over Paul Wilson and Charles Robertson in the final.
In the ladies' competition, Audrey Donaldson kept hold of the singles trophy for another year, beating Fiona Graham 6-2 5-7 6-0. Donaldson then teamed up with Vicky Campbell to win the Ladies' Doubles in an entertaining final against Fiona Graham and Louise Milne, securing the title with a final result of 6-4 7-6.
Alan Ross completed his hatrick of successes this year by winning the mixed doubles with Babs Buglass. They overcame Paul Wilson and Elaine Chapman 7-6 6-3 in a close final.
In the Plate competitions, Jamie Ross secured the Men's Plate with a 6-0 6-0 win over Dave Shannon. Elaine Chapman took the Ladies' Plate, beating Moira Keith 6-0 6-1.
All members would like to thank coach Gareth Rennie for his tireless work in ensuring that the event ran smoothly!
The prize-giving for this year's Championships is set to be a special event as it will also mark the 25th Anniversary of the club!
